Upendo Tank

How God arranged the provision of funds for the Upendo tank, one of CDK’s last tanks to be sponsored before the onset of COVID-19

JJ, CDK board member Ryan McDonald and seven others made their way to Upendo school during their time in Kenya. Known by the community as “Tank Man”, JJ was approached by a group of students who invited him to pray with them at the location where their tank could be placed. One of the students volunteered to pray, thanking God in advance for his provision. Humbled by the student’s child-like display of faith, the Can Do Kids team began praying too!

Eventually, through one of the team member’s connections, a sponsor was found. What was unique about this sponsor was that it was not a person or a church group, but for the first time in CDK’s history, an organization helped out. In fact, this organization, The KAHR Foundation, matched up to five tanks, leading to TEN more schools getting on-site access to clean water!

In 2019, the Upendo tank was constructed. Answering the prayer of the student who prayed with JJ and his team, the tank would begin providing the 360 students daily access to clean water. 

The Upendo tank was officially commissioned on February 20th, 2020. CDK’s #18 tank, Upendo Primary would be one of the last tanks to be commissioned before the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, but certainly not the last of the tanks to be completed!
